My Husband of 20 Years Started Sneaking Off to the ‘Gym’ Every Morning During Our Vacation in Mexico – One Evening, I Followed Him and Discovered What Those ‘Workouts’ Were Really About

“Yes.”

His face filled with horror.

“No. Absolutely not.”

I demanded an explanation for the gym visits, secret conversations, and unexplained disappearances.

Stormy stepped forward.

“I was teaching him to dance.”

Cris admitted he had taken lessons every morning in a studio beside the gym. He had written the gym notes because he thought they sounded believable.

“They didn’t,” I told him.

He explained that twenty years earlier, before our wedding, I had begged him to learn a choreographed dance. He had refused, claiming dancing was embarrassing and unnecessary.

At our reception, he stepped on my dress, forgot every turn, and nearly knocked over my aunt.

“I blamed the floor,” he said.

“It was carpet.”

The guests laughed, but Cris became serious.

“I always remembered how disappointed you were.”

He had spent the entire vacation secretly practicing the dance he had refused to learn two decades earlier.

Stormy explained that the phone I had seen contained the choreography video. The whispering, touching, and private meetings had all been dance lessons.

Every suspicious moment began to rearrange itself in my mind.

I had been right that Cris was hiding something.

I had simply been wrong about what it was.

“You could have told me,” I whispered.

“I wanted it to be a surprise.”

“It nearly destroyed me.”

Cris’s smile disappeared.

“I’m sorry, Mel.”

I told him I had spent the week believing he was leaving me.

“Never,” he said immediately.

Our daughter came closer and touched my arm. She admitted she had known about the vow renewal for months, though she had no idea I suspected an affair.

Then Cris lowered himself onto one knee.

He held out a thin silver ring with a small stone. It was simple and modest, which made it feel perfect for us.

“Mel, I cannot promise to become less annoying,” he began.

Our daughter laughed.

“I cannot promise I will suddenly love exercise. These dance lessons nearly killed me.”

Stormy nodded in agreement. “But I can promise that I still choose you. I chose you twenty years ago, and I choose you now.”

Tears filled my eyes.

“I choose the woman who built a home with me, raised our daughter with me, and stayed beside me through every difficult year. I choose my wife, my closest friend, and the person I want beside me when we are old and fighting over the thermostat.”
