“Margaret assaulted you inside the residence?” she asked.
“Yes.”
“Is Ethan aware?”
“Not yet.”
“Do you want her removed?”
“Yes.”
“Then do not return alone.”
I made another call to military security, not to request soldiers for a personal dispute, but because my home contained protected equipment and Margaret had previously tried to enter the secured office.
Her violent behavior created a potential security concern.
The appropriate command personnel were notified.
I also contacted the police.
Then I called Major General Rebecca Sloan.
She had been scheduled to accompany me to a formal retirement ceremony the following morning for one of our senior officers. Transportation and personnel were already arranged.
When I explained what had happened, she was silent for several seconds.
“Are you safe?” she asked.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Is the protected workspace secure?”
“As far as I know.”
“Then we will verify it in the morning.”
I spent the night in temporary lodging near the installation.
