Megan touched the folder but did not open it.
Rowan stood beside her.
The children were on the rug: Noah chewing a ring, Ellis asleep mid-roll, Lily banging the xylophone with the solemn focus of an artist misunderstood by her generation.
Priya cleared her throat. “There’s one more document.”
Rowan frowned. “What document?”
She handed him a sealed envelope. “Your father’s attorney found it after the court ordered the release of archived files. Henry created a private trust before he died. Not for you.”
Rowan opened the envelope.
Inside was a trust document dated six years earlier.
Beneficiary: Any child born to Rowan Bellamy and Megan Bellamy, whether acknowledged publicly or privately.
Megan leaned closer, reading over his shoulder.
Rowan’s eyes blurred.
His father had prepared for grandchildren before any existed. Not as heirs to a name, but as children to be protected if the name ever failed them.
