I laughed when I spotted my ex-wife walking alone down a deserted road outside Franklin

Her gaze moved to Rowan.

“I taught my son to value reputation over trust. I watched him suffer for that lesson, and I still did not stop. For that, I am responsible.”

Rowan did not look away.

Evelyn turned to Megan.

“I took what was not mine to take,” she said, and her voice faltered. “No apology restores a year. No sentence repairs a cradle left empty. But I am sorry.”

Megan’s face remained still.

Afterward, outside the courthouse, reporters waited beyond the barricades. Priya guided them through a side exit, but Evelyn paused near Rowan.

For a moment, mother and son stood beneath the courthouse columns, two people joined by blood and separated by choices.

“Will you ever forgive me?” Evelyn asked.

Rowan looked toward Megan, who was buckling Lily into the stroller while Noah and Ellis slept side by side.

“I don’t know,” he said honestly.
