The journal is run by *the Peck brothers* - famous twin brothers who are both Editors in Chief, and who are also bitter enemies. They are in a secret war against each other.
The journal has *39 editors*, all obsessed with poetry. Their mission is:
> *Find originality. Reward creativity. Burn the rest.* And by "burn," they really mean incinerate it.
Good poems are not good enough. If your poem is rejected, it is burned in the basement by parolees who run the mailroom. Plagiarists are not tolerated.
Batter starts in the basement doing menial tasks, but soon he is pulled into the crazy office politics, the private lives of the editors, and the war between the twin brothers.
*The Theme:*
It's a funny, heartwarming office comedy and a love letter to the written word. The book asks: What is the value of poetry and originality in a world that only cares about money and profit? And it explores identity, ambition, and finding your place when you feel different.
