“I’m asking you to say it.”
“Yes.”
“And while asking me to stay home and depend on your salary?”
His eyes dropped. “Yes.”
I placed my hand on the prenup.
“Thank you. That’s the first useful truth you’ve given me all week.”
“You planned this.”
“I prepared for it. There’s a difference.”
Mom reached for my hand, but she didn’t pull me anywhere. She waited.
Elon looked at me. “So what happens now?”
“For tonight, Sophie and I are staying with Mom and Dad. Tomorrow, I’ll speak to my attorney. I’ll make decisions when I have facts, not when you’re frightened.”
“And us?”
I looked at the man I’d loved, then at our daughter.
“I don’t know yet. But I know I’m not giving up my job, my security, or my voice to make this marriage easier for you.”
